United State Patent Office
American Bridge Patents: The First Century (1790-1890) This publication takes on the daunting task of writing based solely on thousands of pages of patent work collected from the United States Patent Office. The collected records focus on the historic bridgework that culminated during the first century of the office's inception. Fueled by the field of bridge engineering and its free enterprise setting in the nineteenth century, the Institute for the History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology at West Virginia University collected and poured through these documents for several years. This publication is the first public exposure to these patent records. The first half of the work is a series of essays discussing a diverse range of topics while the second half of the work contains illustrations and texts on various bridge designs recovered from the Patent Office.
United States trademark law - Trademarks were traditionally protected in the United States only under State common law, growing out of the tort of unfair competition. In 1946, Congress passed the Lanham Act (15 USC ยงยง 1051 - 1127) under its Commerce Clause power, which creates federal protection and registration for trademarks, administered by the United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO"). United Kingdom Patent Office - The United Kingdom Patent Office is the United Kingdom government agency responsible for maintaining registers of intellectual property including designs, patents and trademarks in the United Kingdom (UK). The UK Patent Office is located in Newport, South Wales but, for historical reasons, documents relating to UK Patent Office matters can also be filed in a small branch office in London. United States Patent and Trademark Office - The United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO or USPTO) is an agency in the United States Department of Commerce that provides patent and trademark protection to inventors and businesses for their inventions and corporate and product identification. The PTO is currently based in Alexandria, Virginia, after a recent move from the Crystal City area of Arlington, Virginia. Trilateral Offices - The Trilateral Offices, or Trilateral Patent Offices, are a group of patent offices consisting of the European Patent Office (EPO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). 89 % of the patents in force in the world are either European patents (or part of European patent in a contracting state), Japanese patents or US patents See also ==
